Come on out and watch Amy Foster and her amazing high school art students create a large scale drawing in CHALK!

We get started around 10am, take a short lunch break and usually finish up around 3pm or so.

Come cheer us on or create a drawing or two of your own.  Supplies are provided by the St Clair Art Association.

All are welcome for this free of charge event!

Hope to see you there - rain or shine.  Don't worry... we always find a spot under cover just in case.

Amy Foster will be presenting a figure - related drawing demonstration for the Shelby Township's Fine Art Society on Wednesday, June 11.  She will bring many samples of her work to help illustrate the final product of her demo.  She will be working from a live model during the demo so you can see her entire process and ask questions along the way.  Please join us.

The Northville Art House is pleased to present this exhibit celebrating the figurative art of two Detroit area artists.  Friends and instructors who share a love of capturing the human form, Foster is a master draftsman who loves line and gesture while Szabo's passion is paint and color.  Their collaboration has produced an exciting collection of work that showcases visions of traditional figure and portrait in line and brush.

In conjunction with the April Exhibit “Line and Brush:  Two Figurative Visions” showcasing the work of renowned artists Amy Foster and Vianna Szabo, the Northville Art House is pleased to announce two very special workshops taught by these exhibiting artists.  Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis so call now to guarantee a spot.

Portrait Drawing Fundamentals with Amy Foster

To become better draftsmen, we need to hone our seeing skills and simplify the strokes we choose based on observation along with knowledge of the subject.  In this workshop, we will begin day one focusing on the anatomy of the skull to better understand what is happening underneath the flesh.  This will help explain light and shadow patterns due to plane changes which leads to feature placement, proportion and, ultimately, accuracy in your drawing.

April 20 and 21 (Two day workshop) • 9:30am to 4:00pm

$190 for Northville Art House Members/$210 for Non-Members

Additional $20 model fee due the first day of the workshop

Painting Gesture Portraits with Vianna Szabo

The goal of gesture painting is to capture an impression of the model in a specific light. In this workshop, portraits are painted in under an hour, which gives them a fresh, loose appearance. The time constraint forces students to concentrate on form and light and leave out unnecessary details. Students will come away with a greater understanding of facial structure, brushwork, color mixing, and harmonies.

April 27 and 28 (Two day workshop) • 9:30am to 4:00pm

$190 for Northville Art House Members/$210 for Non-Members

Additional $20 model fee due the first day of the workshop
